Supporting legacy aircraft and engines, designed in the 1970’s and out of production for more than 30 years, with components such as gearboxes and housings, is a constant challenge with lead times of two years or more. The US Air Force and Defense Logistics Agency contracts with Renaissance Services to apply reverse engineering and additive manufacturing of tooling for castings to assist in the production of needed spare parts. This presentation is an overview of the overall methodology and the 3D-printing technology used to produce these hard-to-get replacement parts.
Dan Z. Sokol, CEO of Renaissance Services where he is involved in leading major technology projects in the aerospace & defense industry. He has successfully managed projects funded by the US Air Force, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Science Foundation. ABSTRACT:
As Wright State University has downsized, weathered legal trouble, a faculty strike, a budget crisis, and a global pandemic, two Engineering departments jockey for most students per department in any given year while both programs consistently earn national recognition in quality and student success. This presentation will highlight student work of the past two years by WSU’s outstanding graduating seniors.
Craig Baudendistel, a graduate of WSU with a BS, MS, and Ph.D in mechanical engineering, worked 2-3 years in AFRL exploring and validating component life models and simulation. Having fostered a love for teaching during graduate school, he returned to teach at WSU and helped implement a novel restructuring of the curriculum in engineering. Craig has won the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at the Instructor and Lecturer rank and numerous Outstanding Teaching Awards from the Department and College levels.
